‘The Black Rider’ is in the great tradition of anti-self-righteousness, debunking pompous do-gooders, practiced by John Gay (‘The Beggar’s Opera’), Bertolt Brecht & Kurt Weill (‘The Threepenny Opera’), Tom Waits, Nick Cave, P.J.Harvey, Nina Hagen et al, and a cast of millions. Give me the truth dammit – I can take it, after all one cannot be stoic/atheist/realist without challenging some form of dogmatic deceit. ‘Kick against the pricks’ was Willie Wobbledagger’s quote….Not bad advice…
