Question by Eric P: What should i Do Acting/Filming.?
When i finish high school i want to get into acting but i was want to know how to film my own videos/edit them and lighting and all that but i heard the best way to do it is to go to college and take film and production class and get that diploma. i was planning on making my own videos because i want to become an actor. do you think i should either do
1) Go to college and get my film & production diploma and then go to acting classes and hire a coach or
2) Go to acting school in college and learn to how to film edit/lighting/film out of class ( hiring someone or going to classes)
My family said to do one because acting coaches teaches you the same thing in college and college is basically only for the SAG hook up.

I would take some acting classes first. Learn what it is like to be in front of the camera. I’ve done both. I can tell as an actor if the director has been an actor or is just a director and thinks directing is just telling what actors to do. Film school is Ok, but in the real world of the movie business you can’t be the director, lighting, prop master, actor, photographer, editor, etc. You will learn all those things however. Actually if you want to make the most money you want to become a producer. Also you better know some business. If you think film is all art and not business you will fail. You have to have a business sense when you work. You just can’t go on location and do what you want when you are using other people’s money. Get use to failure. Get use to stress. Get use to ask for money. Don’t sleep with the talent. Good luck.
