The good news is, you know what you want early enough to actually have a shot.
Directing/Producing/Screenwriting (Also called “show runners”) is a huge undertaking with more responsibilities than you might expect. You’re responsible for all the content seen and unseen. This means getting all the best people to build your sets, find your locations, cast your cast, make your costumes… even hiring the people who make the prop food on the character’s tables. These days production companies work on tight budgets and short deadlines and with the writer’s strike in place, things are really crazy.
What you’ll need are more than one college degrees if you want to do all three. For sure, you’re going to need a degree in film school and telecommunications. English and creative writing will also be of help if you’re going to be a notable writer, as well. There aren’t very many who really get known for doing all of these, but the ones who do, do it very well.
University of Southern California is a great place to shoot for for college. In the meantime, look up all your local theaters and get involved in all aspects. The younger you start learning, the easier time you’ll have spreading yourself so thin when you get older and in the thick of it. It’s not an easy job, but if you’re bright and creative and have the drive to do it, it can be done.
Never stop writing down your ideas. You never know when you might look back on those ideas somewhere down the road.
