Question by Filmg: Could I get into UCLA with my GPA and my test scores?
I’m a (female) junior, and I attend a prep school that’s rated pretty highly academically. I want to go to a great film school (UCLA, NYU- Tisch, etc.).
The problem is that I only acknowledged the fact that I’ll need to compete with so many other applicants to get into college this year. I was caught up in transferring high schools and having fun during freshman and sophomore years. This has lowered my GPA significantly.
My GPA’s (avg. of weighted and unweighted) for each year follow.
9th grade: 3.6
10th grade: 3.75
11th grade: 4.2 ( A’s and two higher B’s–> I just completed my first semester, and I’ll try to raise it second semester)
I’m in the IB program this year, and I will be next year as well (all of my classes are IB; three of those are HL). I took some Honors courses in 10th and 11th grade (those were calculated into my gpa as well)
I received a 190 on the PSAT this year; who knows how SATs and ACTs will turn out.
With this information, do you think that I can get into any prestigious schools with good film/ production programs? As of now, UCLA is one of my top choices. I don’t live in California or New York. Any other top-ranked schools that I could get into? What could I do to better the chances?

With your “prestigious” school and decent GPA, what will set you apart from your competing applicants is extra curricular activities, among other things that SET YOU APART from others… not to mention high SAT’s
what colleges really want other than impressive scores is people who aren’t like the norm: they can find millions with high GPA’s
They want people who have ambition and more to offer who show it through clubs, community service, and character
… set yourself apart from the rest + keep your scores high and I have no doubt you’ll make it to a great school
