Question by Hello I’m Sandy: High School Photography Class?
Ok so I’m thinking about taking photography for one of my electives next year and in our course book it states that the course is not intended for digital camera techniques. In the requirements, it says that the student needs a 35mm camera and that “film, photo paper, matboard, and photo album must be purchased by the student”. But problem is I know there’s a difference between digital and film cameras so with the information I gave you, will some of you who know about photography be able to tell me if I need a film camera or digital camera. And could you also give suggestions on a good camera that’s suitable for a HS photography class?

You will need a film camera. I would suggest something along the lines of a Pentax K1000, which is a completely manual camera. If you go to a Photography store, a professional one, and ask for a 35 mm manual they will know what you are talking about and point in the right direction. There you can also get film and photo paper. Your class is probably a black and white photography class, but find out for sure so you get the right type of film.
