Question by Sam Fisher CT: Asymmetric normal female genitals vs designer vulvas?
It has come to my attention through the media that a lot of women nowadays are undergoing Labia reduction, Labiaplasty etc to attain perfect looking genitals.
I cannot quite conceive this since I myself prefer women with normal asymmetric or protruding genitals.
I’ve discussed this with a lot of my friends and most of them prefer normal bits like I do.
So why then do women go for this?
Do guys out there prefer those symmetric artificial looking female genitals?
Are you ladies trying to impress men?
Its totally cool if grown women went out and did this for whatever personal reasons they had and i couldnt have cared less about this but what caught my attention is very young girls being paranoid about their vulvas and undergoing a great deal of mental suffering regarding this issue.
I saw this tv documentary called The Perfect Vagina. It was a British production. They were just investigating the whole Genital plastic surgery thing. They showed a girl there she was in her late teens and she was trying to get a labia reduction and she happened to be a fairly attractive young woman. After seeing her genital organ I was at a total loss to understand what was wrong with it. She said she hated the way it looked and was embarassed by it and that her sister along with some of her friends were making fun of this girl and were making references to Ham slices.
You also come across a plethora of 14-15 year old girls in those health forums who post that they have “Ugly” or “Huge” bits and they’re afraid to have sex. That the “bf” might laugh. Whether he’ll reject her…that she’s depressed and how much does Labia reduction surgery cost etc etc.
Now I don’t normaly care about stuff like this. i’m in my early twenties and I have a load of other interests and engagements to keep my mind occupied.
Unfortunately the rational and compassionate side of me grieves over these girls. If I had a sister like that I wouldn’t want her to be suffering in that manner over some dumb issue.(Which I’m sure most of the cases are)
So I’m just wondering….what caused this? Is it the premature sex they engage in? Should we discourage it more?…..How can you as women and adults help them? The irony is that in some cases like the girl in the documentary as well as girls who havn’t yet exposed themselves to a guy yet – are affected by other GIRLS taunting them and instilling fear and insecurities. I mean what do these girls even compare their vulvas to? In that documentary that girl eventually goes through with the surgery. After the surgery I clearly saw the fear and agony she was experiencing and clearly she hadn’t thought twice about the post operative complications…..She was even scared that it was bleeding etc which is something you should expect.
This is a very pathetic situation…It would gratify me if these young girls were appeased. Feminists you can do something worthwhile for a change

I have had labiaplasty as my labia got ripped half off during childbirth (sorry if TMI lol) It wasnt noticed at the time and by the time I noticed (it did hurt but I thought it was normal after birth pains) a week had gone by so they couldnt sort it out properly so they took it away.
I have to say they knocked me out and when I came round it didnt hurt at all. I thought it would but it was painless and there was no after pain. I had no complications and I was only under general anaestitic for half an hour. There was no blood, no stinging and the stitches were the ones that dissolve in a week. It was also done for free on the NHS (but then again it was their mistake in the first place)
I dont think it really matters and isnt that big a deal but if someone wants it then its up to them really. Its a quick, easy procedure and if its bothering them that much I dont see the problem
