Question by brandenads: What do they call this filmmaking technique?
In the movie “Richie Rich,” the mom and dad are flying in a plane, and a bomb goes on, causing it to crash. Meanwhile, the kids are riding the roller coaster. When the plane dips down, they show the mom and dad pilots screaming as it crashes, then the camera shows the kids screaming down the hill on the roller coaster. The shots are “lined up” so that they “match” and flow together, even though the plane and roller coaster are completely unrelated to each other.
Is there a name for this film making technique?
Are there any other examples of it?

It’s just fantastic editing and continuity – lining up the time codes of the footage. So, the editor will know that at a particular second this is the frame/footage, and it’s then a case of editing it together and making it in canon so it flows smoothly.
As for other examples of it, I’m not sure. I know what you mean and I’m sure I have seen it done loads of times before, but as for specific examples none spring to mind at the present moment.
