Compare the character’s symptoms to the symptoms of the disorder they were supposed to have in the movie. How do the symptoms match? How are they different? Finally, discuss what filmmakers can do to portray mental illness more accurately.

One of my all time favorite movies that featured a character with a mental disorder is “Me, Myself, and Irene.”
Sure… there are better movies, with mentally disordered characters… But I like comedies… And it is one of my favorites!
Sadly, the directors and writers did not portray an actual mental disease. They called him a schizophrenic… When in actuality, if someone was really like that, would be diagnosed with a severe multiple personality disorder. Unfortionately, most actual people with this disorder, are unaware of the other personalities that inhabit them.
Good movie though…
