Blinded- Mise en scène NYFA 2012

My first project while being enrolled in the New York Film Academy 4 week digital filmmaking program. A story about a man who is temporally blinded.
Video Rating: 0 / 5

Question by Dunstin: Which (digital filmmaking) camera should I get?
For Christmas I’m going to ask the P’s for a camera. In film school I loved the DVX 100a, so as of now that’s what I plan to ask for. I also enjoyed the PD150, but I liked the look and ease-of-use of the DVX better.

Budget IS an issue, so please don’t be a dodo and suggest an HD or anything silly. I’m moving to LA in a month, and plan to make some short films with this bad boy. Thoughts?

Ok, first off, it sounds like you know a lot about film, so I’m going to assume that you’ll be wanting to do big things to your camera. Here is just a sample of things that high-end cameras offer that cheap ones don’t:

-intneral XLR input
-Controls for frame rates, exposures, f-stops
-big one = white balance

I would suggest the DVX 100a. I used that briefly at our video factory, and I fell in love with it. Trust me, the Canon XL1 and XL2 are nice, but they are just too big and bulky. The high-end Sony one’s are nice, but the Panasonic that you used is built so sturdy and durable – you could almost play football with it. (DON’T actually do that)

A short film called The Garden that I shot with the Panasonic LUMIX G2 and the LUMIX G 14-42mm and 45-200mm lenses. Shot in 720p AVCHD Lite. Filmed and Edited By Alistair Ford. Music By Chicane. Best viewed in 720p HD. To find out more about the LUMIX G2 check out our website at lumixg2photographer.blogspot.com
