Question by huh: I plan on majoring in communications, but am also interested in going to graduate school for directing?
I want to direct films or possibly direct documentaries. What can I do to prepare myself for graduate school to get an MFA in directing?
Should I switch my major?
I was planning to transfer to UCLA in a year and a half for communications.

First of all, consider your schools which are very well-known and well-respected for their film programs (my school, UT, has Radio-TV-Film). Some schools I know of are USC, UT, NYU, UNT, among others…to prepare yourself for what may be some huge competition, make the best grades you possibly can and really polish your resume up. Do things relevant, and if you need a stable job and cannot find one in your field of choice, stick with a job for a while and do well with it – that helps also. Be sure to be well-rounded and study hard is about all you can. It’s very specific to the school, usually. Different schools have different requirements so you will want to check them out and people say that your undergrad degree does not have to be relative but it should be. If I were choosing candidates for my school, I would feel much more comfortable with choosing a student who has a BS in RTF than with a student who has a BA in Math…ya know? Best of luck!;)
