Q&A: can someone help me with this story i’m just starting?

Question by Kelsie M: can someone help me with this story i’m just starting?
The dark, malicious gate of Silvinton Academy is placed deep in the woods far from civilization. Intricate patterns adorn the black frame towards the center where the school insignia lies, a serpent with rubies in the place of eyes. Ominous trees bend over and create a tunnel into the Academy, they almost touch you with protective hands that are truly deceitful and cunning. You follow the dark path of undergrowth and vines until you finally reach the center of the forest, Silvinton Academy.

Aisling Gray sits in the back seat of her mother’s green coupe next to her sister, Marie. She runs her fingers through the tan ripped up upholstery and looks at her sister mournfully. She looks out the window at her home, a beat down white house with shattered windows and a broken front door. The concrete path is cracked and worn, and the crunchy and brown grass surrounds it unevenly. Aisling’s mother, Trina, enters from the crooked front door and walks over the uneven path to the car. Aisling holds her breath as well as her tears and grabs her sister’s hand for the first time in a long time. Her sister is so strong that she doesn’t even wince at the thought of leaving for Silvinton Academy. Marie only squeezes her sister’s hand, and stares ahead at what is to come.
Marie releases her sister’s hand as their mother steps into the car and slams the door viciously. Aisling hold her stomach like she’s going to throw up and hold back a heavy sob once more. Their mother and their father had divorced a year ago, and their mother just wasn’t adjusting. She would sit at home without a job and cry in her bed from day to day. Their mother looks at them everyday and recognizes the man who left her for a younger woman. They both look so much like their father that Trina cannot stand to see them. They both got accepted to the ancient academy on full scholarships for reasons they aren’t sure of. So Trina made the decision to send them there, thinking that it was in their best interest.
Aisling pulls out her ipod and listens to her favorite hardcore bands, quite unusual music for such a frail person to listen to. Even though Marie is strong and independent, she has always preferred current pop music and hiphop. When Aisling offers one of her headphones, Marie barks, “No.”
Aisling pulls her earphone back quickly and looks back at the window, a look of intimidation is clear on her fragile face. They are twin sisters but look almost nothing alike, oddly enough. Aisling’s tanned skin is reflected back from her window, as well as the freckles that cover her nose and cheek bones. She pushes her short, light brown hair away from her oval-shaped face and looks at her golden eyes before she looks back down meekly again. Feeling uncomfortable, Aisling pulls up her skinny jeans to show her blue converse shoes. She zips her large sweatshirt up her frail body and shivers against the November breeze. Aisling knows that she is the only one who looks like her father, and so only she should be going. Marie is too good of a sister to let Aisling go alone to Silvinton Academy, and so she gave up her life in the city to go with Aisling.
Marie tries to feel bad for barking at her sister, but she simply can’t. She thinks that Aisling is only being too emotional and that she needs to be helped psychologically. Marie laughs to herself at her little inside joke and pulls her long blonde hair into a neat ponytail before she clips her bangs back, revealing her luminescent blue eyes and her fair complexion. After what seems like hours of everyone ignoring each other, the old green coupe pulls into a small parking lot. Suprisingly their car is the only one parked in. Marie and Aisling get out on both sides of the car before opening the trunk and retrieving their bags.
