Question by Blaze: What elements make up typical Hollywood films that are different from indie films?
I don’t know if the Academy goes after certain movies due to popularity as opposed to quality in the acting and the plot or even the message behind the plot, but sometimes I wonder what elements determine a film as being classified as something the Hollywood film industry usually delights in churning out as opposed to independent films like the Tyler Perry movies for example. I think sometimes the Hollywood film section of the industry tends to focus on popularity as opposed to quality so they stick a bunch of big-name actors in their films whereas independent films are more likely to have a cultural distinction to them and a strong message behind the plot with actors of minimal publicity meaning they aren’t in the mainstream snagging up Oscars like crazy! Someone said the film G.I. Jane was a Hollywood film so that makes me wonder if the war films Saving Private Ryan and Platoon would be considered Hollywood films too even if the message behind the devastation war causes was strong throughout the movie.

1) Hollywood has a lot of money to make things that please the eyes and distract from the story. Indie movies focus on the plot and the people.
2) Hollywood gets A-list stars in their movies – the better the cast, the more money the movie will bring in. Indie movies focus on the actual story, not on whatever big shot is on the screen.
3) Hollywood is quite focused on making movies with current references and depictions of big historical events. Indie movies tend to focus on the intricacies of day-to-day life.
Indie movies are just generally better. Go for it!
