Question by Rozi: How do I connect my camera?
So for english class, my group made a movie. It was my job to film and edit. I have a Sony Handycam. I think that’s what it’s called. It says ‘super steady shot’ on the top. It has a little dock, but when i connect the camera to the dock and then the dock into the USB, it doesn’t show up and Windows Movie Maker won’t import. What’s wrong?
By the way, every other time I’ve made videos, I’ve connected with windows movie maker and it’s worked

“Handycam” is Sony’s brandname for ALL their consumer camcorders.
MiniDV tape needs a firewire connection to your computer – USB won’t work. The camcorder needs to be in “Play” or “VCR” mode. If your computer does not have a firewire port, hopefully it has an available expansion slot so you can add one. When connected properlay and correct settings applied, you will “Capture” the video to MovieMaker.
Hard disc drive and flash memory camcorders need a USB connection – but the video does not import – the hard drive appears as another drive; you copy the files – and you need to convert the files to something MovieMaker can deal with. StreamClip works well

DVD camcorder mean you need to finalize the disc in the camcorder, take it out of the camcorder and put it in the drawer laoding DVD drive in your computer – then rip the video using HandBrake

or similar ripper. THEN you can drag the ripped video to a MovieMake Collections area.
The Sony camcorder model number is under the camcorder – near the tripod mounting hole. DCR-SR45 or DCR-GC30… or something like that…
