For many years, the Calgary area and the rest of Alberta has served as the backdrop for a number of Canadian and international television programs and movies. The 2009 Gemini Awards will be held in Calgary this year and will shine a spotlight on and celebrate the significant contribution this city and this province have made not only to the Canadian television and film industry, but to that of the world. The creative industries are responsible for four per cent of the worlds economic output. Calgary has a thriving and vibrant creative industry providing some 43000 people with jobs which has a considerable impact on the citys and provinces economic success. From independent production companies to sound editors from set designers to hair and make-up stylists, it is these people who make Calgary a hub for the television and film industry.
