“Profit” is one of those things that is hard to define in Hollywood. They have so many accounting tricks that a picture can gross tens or hundreds of millions and not show any profit. There have been countless lawsuits concerning accounting practices in the film industry. The really big stars can get “points” from the gross not the profit. “Dollar one” in the vernacular, meaning they get their cut from the first dollar earned.
