Question by sienaglamorous: Advice..Should I take classes over the summer? Behind in math&science?
I’m in all honors sophomore courses right now (highest I can take) except for math and science because I did not take honors math & science my freshman year (last year). Most sophomores are in the same boat I am in terms of math & science, except they aren’t in Honors.
The only scientific field that interests me is environmental science, but I’m really not looking to become a doctor or scientist…
So my question is: Should I spend part of my summer taking chemistry & Algebra 2 so that I can take the highest math and science classes possible my junior & senior year? Or should I take chem and alg. 2 along with the moe advanced math and science classes (not sure if this is possible)
Or just forget about it, take chem and alg. 2 next year and spend my summer doing an internship, volunteering, taking SAT courses and Spanish classes?
Basically what I want to know is, will not taking the highest possible math & science classes (but I do take honors) lower my chances of getting admitted into a competetive college? I am taking 2 or 3 AP’s next year, and will take more my senior year. Freshman yr, I had a 3.4 unweighted GPA, this year about a 3.7 …not sure yet. I’m on the debate team, Model UN, environmental club, and literary magazine. I am in all honors courses. Last summer, when I was 14, I found an internship by myself at a television/film production company. This summer, I’m taking part in a 2 week program at Brown’s Leadership Institute. I am currently learning the guitar. I am a big traveler- I’ve already been to Brazil, France twice, England, Ireland, Mexico, Jamaica twice, Puerto Rico..I am planning on doing a service learning or volunteer adventure trip in Africa, Asia or South America next spring break and/or summer. My passion and skill lies in writing. I have an A in honors English. In middle school, I won 1st place in an essay contest, 2nd place in a poetry contest, and had a poem published in the local newspaper. I am trying to enter more contests- it would be great if I could win a national one. I’m also considering taking tennis lessons & trying out for the team next year..Any thoughts? I’m not very athletic so I’m not so sure I would ever become captain or be on Varsity…
