Bhorle is a rural village in the Terai Hills in Chitwan, Nepal and is situated near the Seti river and the main highway which connects Nepal to India. There is one primary school in the village. The nearest town, market and health centre is 45 minutes away by bus. The village already faces problems due to lack of funds to improve and expand the school and to establish a desperately needed health centre. The main source of income for the village is agriculture. Farmers are reliant on rainfall but changing weather patterns are effecting their crop production. When we arrived in Bhorle in July 2009, the monsoon season was already 2months late. Villagers spoke of how the late onset had ruined their crops and made it difficult for them to plan for the future. The irregular rains occurring in Bhorle and across Nepal are having a negative impact on livelihoods. It is also adding to health problems of rural villagers, who suffer a poor diet due to the food insecurity. If crops continue to fail due to erratic weather changes, soon, villagers in Bhorle will …
