In other words, do you think a movie would probably be better if the author has more control over how the movie is done?

Not necessarily; look at the two versions of Stephen King’s “The Shining”; Kubrick’s is vastly superior.
Distilling action and dialogue from a novel is an art that many authors cannot master.
