www.harlemacademy.org Harlem Academy serves an economically diverse population like a public school, provides a rigorous academic program to the standard of a top private school, and offers choice to underserved families akin to a charter school. However in putting it all together, Harlem Academy stands apart. Harlem Academy was established in 2004 with a first grade class and the contributions of many generous individuals. The school’s curriculum was developed through a grant from the Goldman Sachs Foundation and in partnership with Columbia University’s Institute for Urban and Minority Education. Major funding has also been received from the AK Starr Charitable Trust, the Altman Foundation, Van Wagner Communications, and The Tomorrow Foundation. Harlem Academy adds a grade each year toward eventually serving over 300 students through the eighth grade. www.harlemacademy.org
