Question by Ashwinder: I want to get into Wildlife Filmmaking, what should I do next?
I have a MSc in natural sciences and I am planning on doing a 9 week course in documentary filmmaking in January. I’ve been lucky enough to make a contact at the BBC but am not sure exactly where it will lead. I am currently volunteering at the Natural History Museum and am hoping to spend a few weeks volunteering at a wildlife conservation foundation in their cinematography library.
I have some (very) limited experience with a camera and am a passionate but amateur photographer, what should be my next step?
Answer by John Saba
It looks like your previous and planned experience is on track.
I’d say do a few short projects and get someone to critique them.
You might also look into assisting someone currently working in the field.
Good luck with a fascinating and rewarding activity!
