Question by selfishly selfish: How am I looking for MIT?
Freshman year – Horrible grades (mostly F’s except an A in math) Got my English and Science grade up to B’s in summer school.
One suspension; a lot of referrals.
I have a good reason for it, but still, it sucks and it’ll hurt my application a lot.
Sophomore year – 4.0 throughout the year
Single-handedly founded a math and physics club, which so many students liked that one more location opened up with another leader (who I totally chose). Club enters Olympiads, gets lectures from famous physicians, and prepares kids for AP exams.
Took physics class and was the only sophomore among only seniors.
Took AP physics exam and got a 5.
Took college classes (physics)
Got great AMC 10 scores.
Summer after sophomore –
Internship at Academy of Sciences
Took a calculus class at a UC.
Junior year –
Took calculus 2 with seniors
Took BioTech AND AP Biology
Took AP calculus exam; got a 4
Took AP biology exam; got a 5
Got great AMC 12 scores
Continued my math and physics club
Started tutoring a small group of juniors AND seniors
Had a consistent 4.0
Summer of junior year –
Was accepted into a competitive math and physics camp. Studied math and physics abroad.
Senior year –
Consistent 4.0
Amazing SAT scores
Job at a science center
Published a physics article
Extra stuff:
GSA (president)
Debate team
Cook’s club
Filmmaking classes/film was shown at small theater.
Work experience as peer educator
Published a few short stories
Is this enough to make up for a terrible freshman year?
