Question by candlelite: How can I begin doing documentaries and get them noticed?
I want to make money doing documentaries but at the moment do not have the finances to do so and hoping to possibly be able to showcase them.

I understand your issue. But what Ive learned throught trial and error is that documentaries generally dont make money. Not the kind of money to live off of and not get evicted from your apartment.
Make documentaries because you have a need to tell a great story. Enter them into film festivals- that takes some money but you can try getting a waiver- and if it is good enough then someone will take notice. Very, very few make it into theaters and make money. I would instead get a job and make the documentary on the side. Thankfully, its one of the genres that can be done on digital and cheaply.
I really enjoyed the book 30 dollar film school on the different ways to pay for your film. The writer had an excellent idea on setting up a non-profit organization to help fund his movies. But again, he didnt really make profits.
