Question by CodyG: I need help with music?
I’m an indie filmmaker. I realize I need permission to use artist’s music in my movies but, what if I can’t get a hold of the artist. I’ve tried getting a hold of Crossfade, Swallow Studios and Vic Mizzy and have gotten no replies. I’m sure they would’ve at least let me know. What do I do? I need music for my movie and I have to make this movie soon. What do I do? Would it help if I included the song and artist in the credits??

If you’re an independent filmmaker, you probably shouldn’t worry too much about it. If your film gets picked up by a major studio, then you would definitely have to pay for the rights to the music, but I doubt too many musicians out there are hunting down independent filmmakers using their music.
