Question by cherries_bomb: I need money to attend the New york Film Academy, some ideas on raising money?
I know what it is like to want to go to school, but not have enough money to do so. I am an independent student living on her own and having to support herself. It’s hard working full time only making $ 9.50 an hour, which isn’t enough to cover all my bills, and trying to pay for and go to school full time. My choice of major has disappointed my family, which has concluded in no help for school. It has been my dream to be in films ever since I was six year old. I have performed on the same stage as Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley; acting is my life and my passion. I was in my very first commercial at the age of seventeen and fell in love with performing on camera right then and there. The skills and experience I will gain at the New York Film Academy will help make my dream possible; however, I cannot afford to pay for my program alone. The program is fifty thousand dollars and the school offers thirty thousand dollars in financial aid. I, however, need to come up with the other twenty thousand since my family absolutely will not help me. Anyone have any ideas on how I can raise $ 20,000.00 in 16 months?
Well both answers so far are good ones, but 1) I need to work to pay for my bills too so I essentially need to get the $ 20k some other way. 2) I dont have good enough credit to get a private loan and (of course) no one in my family will help me get one. And (also of course) NYFA doesn’t do the Stafford loans or FAFSA so Im kinda stuck.
I was thinking about getting in line with a talent agency and getting some paying jobs through them and just banking the money. Any other ideas?

Answer by just not that
Sounds like your job is the best and most reliable method.
Figure it this way,
$ 9.50 hour X 40 hrs week X (52+26= 78 weeks, aka 18 months ) = $ 29,640
You will not bring home all of this obviously because of taxes, but you will be darn close to your 20K mark. Just be sure you have NO living expenses. If your family wont give you money, perhaps they will put you up for the next 18 months so you can save every penny you earn. You need to cancel your cell phone, get rid of EVERYTHING that is costing you money right now. You might as well get used to it *(being the starving actor), cause you’ll not make any money being in that much debt after you graduate and living on an actors salary.
