Question by AJ: I want to become a film producer/director/screenwriter, what steps should I take?
I’m a senior in high school this year and will be graduating in June. I’ve been accepted to a couple of great schools and am waiting to hear back from others, but since I live in the Midwest, Film/TV isn’t exactly a popular major. The school I’m planning on attending does have a program for it, but I don’t know how in-depth it goes or anything like that. I wanted to go to USC for their awesome Cinematic Arts program, but it’s SO pricey, and we just can’t afford it. So I’m stuck here, and I need to do what I can with what I’ve got.
I was wondering if anyone knew the proper steps to take in order to gain experience in the field? Are their places I can job shadow/intern? Or is a bachelor’s degree in the field really the only way to go?
Anything you know would be great. Thanks!

USC is expensive. You’re paying for the contacts.
Look at Chapman College in Orange, CA, and get a job as a assistant (there are plenty of shows filmed in California – CSI Miami is filmed mostly in Long Beach (20 miles from Orange).
