Question by Paul Smith: Is this possible to do on school laptop?
For my film making class, I have to make a comedy, so I am doing a talk show, but for my introduction to the show I would like to do kinda what SNL and Jay Leno do, with the scenes of New York City night life flashing by, is this possible to download and use on IMovie? Also where would I get these clips, and there is a school filter so it may not be very easy to download things.

I don’t know the capabilities of your computer or the video editor you use but there are places where you can download video clips, for free and with no copyright issues.
There are now several public domain video segments around.
Penn State University has a nice collection of public domain material – http://mediacommons.psu.edu/freemedia
AV Geeks has 20,000 films
VJ Loops may have something useful – http://www.archive.org/details/vj_loops
WGBH TV – has free video clips – http://lab.wgbh.org/sandbox/
Public Domain Flicks – http://www.publicdomainflicks.com/
Open-Source Movies – http://www.archive.org/details/opensource_movies
Search CC – http://search.creativecommons.org/ – is the main search page for creative commons work
