Title: Licks ‘n Beats Directed by Patrice Lawrence Camera – Carol Sidney Do children have the right not to be smacked? An exploration of the use of physical discipline in UK Caribbean families. This film was made through the ISIS production and training initiative run by the Documentary Filmmakers Group (DFG) the UKs leading provider of training in documentary filmmaking, in partnership with the British Institute of Human Rights. ISIS is a groundbreaking documentary production and training initiative designed to produce great human rights films and give talented women directors the skills they need to get ahead in the industry. Sixteen emerging female filmmakers were trained over three months in preparation for the production of three human rights films which were finished in May 2009. The three finished short documentaries made by ISIS participants deal with childrens rights, disabled access to transport and the rights of parents with learning difficulties. The initiative ran over a series of weekends in the first half of 2009. As part of the course ISIS training course, participants developed and pitched their proposal for short documentaries on current human rights issues and three were selected to go into production. The documentaries produced by participants as part of the ISIS programme were executive-produced and edited by practicing broadcast professionals. Plot Synopsis: Fragmented moments and visual metaphor transcribe the story of a young couple whose carefree antics can no longer carry a relationship as they used to, resulting in a growing distance. Through the course of their time together, the girl acknowledges this change reluctantly. Its only when the boy really hurts her that she takes the initiative to confront him, giving him the option of leaving, and knowing the consequences. By losing him, she finds herself lost, but eventually seeks closure from the relationship and actively decides to move on. ______ Tanglements is my senior thesis project as a Motion PIcture Arts Major at Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan.
