Question by Kelly B: Is taking 19 credits as a second semester freshman?
I’m taking 19 credits:
Intro to Filmmaking – 4 credits
World Civilization 1400 onward – 3 credits
Intro to Sociology – 3 credits
Math (Pre-Calic equivlant)- 4 credits
Chem 101 – 5 credits
Most people are only taking 14 and I really was planning on dropping Math, but it was a really easy class.
These are all classes that I need too.
If I quit one, I’ll have to resign and have an ‘R’ on my transcipt. Does that look really bad on a transcript or is it fine if you retake the class?
Should I just keep doing all the classes and see how I do and just drop whatever is the hardest?
Last semester I took 18 and I got a 3.08 (I need a 3.0 to keep my scholarship), but I told myself I’d do better this semester. But I’m finding that going to class from 9-5 isn’t leaving me with very much energy to do anything.

OK, you had trouble with 18 and so you chose to make your life even more difficult with 19… That sounds like something I’d do.
You need to talk to an academic counselor/advisor at your school to help you decide what to do. They’ll also be able to explain whether the “R” would be removed if you retook the class.
You need to preserve your scholarship, too, and an “R” could conceivably affect that. Again, the counselor can help out.
Good luck!
