Question by ♫♫*That Girl Eisa*♫♫: Transcendalism help…………?
TSM Transcendalism
Transcendentalism is by knowing natural laws and though sound logical thought one person’s thoughts and power is greater than many who follow. To be clearer to be a Transcendalism you have to be an independent thinker. The movie Dead Poets Society is about Transcendalism, and how is effects people and there relationships.
The movie Dead Poets Society took place in 1959 at Welton Academy, a private college for boys only. The discipline is the most important goal at the school. Any act of independent thinking is against school rules. Mr. Keating teaches poetry at Welton Academy, but doesn’t follow the rules. He shows this by ripping the pages out of the textbook, and asking the students to join in. He wasn’t just ripping the pages out of the book, he was trying to prove be yourself, think for yourself, be who you are, and don’t be someone else. You do not have to follow all the famous poets to be successful in life.
Another example of Transcendalism from the Dead Poets Society is the relationship between Todd Anderson and his father. Todd’s father didn’t want Todd to be an independent thinker. When Todd wanted to act in the play his father said no. He was an over controlling father and didn’t let his son to make choices for him self. Todd didn’t even talk to his father about him joining the play because he already know the answer, which his father would give him. He went behind his back and join anyways, he even wrote a premising sheet signing his fathers name, with out him knowing. In the end Todd ended up killing himself, because his father didn’t let him to be an independent thinker.
Overall, the movie Dead Poets Society shows a lot of examples of Transcendalism. There was some positive and negative outcomes. The positives were that Mr. Keating is trying to teach the students, to be yourself, make your own choices, and think independent. The negative was that his father was making Todd do stuff that he wasn’t interesting in, and waned him to be just like his brother. I think the movie is trying to say that Transcendalism is good for you, and it really can get you somewhere in life.
