Question by N S: Which College Should I Go To For A Film Director Major San Francisco State or Sac State?
I will be transferring to either of these college in 2010 and was wondering which college would be better for a film major in film production, preferably Film Director. I’ve heard SFSU is good in film but the thing is I don’t think I want to live in The City. I hear its always cold and foggy around there, not to mention I think the place is crowded. Since I was planning on living near the campus with my girlfriend, I’d prefer to have a relatively inexpensive place to live. I hear Sacramento is more cheaper than the Bay Area.
I haven’t really heard much about the film programs besides their competitive. I’m going to a community college right now and there aren’t really any transferable film classes I can take now and I feel like if I go to SF state, I’d have to take prereq classes my first semester and I don’t want to waste money on another semester. Not sure if Sac State would have me take any prereq classes but I think it’s at least cheaper. I emailed Sac State a while ago because that’s the school I’ve been leaning towards and this is what they said “We have an extremely small production department consisting of mainly HDV and Digital Video camera and editing, a lighting studio, and a sound lab. We have very limited animation, which is offered through the Art department. We don’t have a separate animation department or concentration.” I personally don’t feel like I need such a big studio, I like going outside and filming. I have my own camera and will have an iMac with Final Cut Pro (and am hoping to have bootcamp so I can run Sony Vegas also).
Anyways, if anyone can provide me with information, that’d be awesome. Thanks

there are 2 more to consider http://www.academyart.edu/film-school/index.html and the http://www.sfdigifilm.com/home.html a one year digital filmaking school.there is also ucs ( very high tech and has internships jobs and connections to the real world) which is highly recommended.if you want to go outside of california toronto canada vancouver and orlando florida have excellent programs. the schools you have mentioned are good but not the best.look at all your options tuition prices grants and financial aide too and make appointments to visit the campus department see for yourself and talk to the other students.good career choice and good luck
