No plot. Bad effects. Dubbed audio. It’s 1988 ninth grade filmmaking at its worst. The long standing feud between the Caplets and the Mount-A-Glues has finally made the internets. Pulled out from the vault is the 1988 classic Romeo & Juliet: Act III Scene I. *NOTES* Ethan and I shared directing duties, although the credits state otherwise. We used Ethan’s dad’s video camera. He was DP for the entire shoot except for one shot. I framed up the massive ship explosion near the end of the video. We spent a while shooting that explosion and I made the mistake having trees in space. In order to make the ship explode, we shot it with a bb gun. Ethan did all the post production editing the short deck-to-deck, long before nonlinear editing existed. The practice is called crude assemble editing and it’s not good. Titles were created on Commodore 64 courtesy of Ethan’s computer programming. It was a much better choice than the handwritten titles Dave Cornelius and I used in the 1987 animated classic Gods Of Destruction. All the audio was recorded on an audio cassette recorder then edited on to tape. Practically the entire speech by Prince Escalator at the 6:20 mark was cut off in the post production process. I wasn’t aware of this mistake until the day of the project. Ethan told me he fixed it. Little did I know he would add his voice to the long speech we shot in Charlie’s garage.
