Question by Jamie: What are my chances at these colleges?
Just finished junior year at an Independent private school in New England.
SAT (first try, plan to take them again)
CR – 670
Math – 610 (can be improved)
Writing – 740
Composite – 2020
Academic Honors at End of year Assembly
9th – school’s best research paper in biological studies.
10th – Yale Book Prize, given to one sophomore who achieves academic excellence and leadership in the community.
11th – award for most improvement in writing in junior class for english.
EC’s
I have played first trumpet in the academy’s Wind Ensemble since 8th grade.
Elected the male day student Prefect of Junior class. (continue 12th grade).
Elected president of ARETE student tutoring for senior year: members comprised of top 10% of senior class.
Active member of academy’s community service group (11,12).
Give student tours to prospective students and their families.
Acted in academy’s spring 2009 theatre production.
Starter on varsity soccer since 10th.
MVP of JV soccer 9th.
Played JV baseball 8th-10th, received Sportsmanship award each season.
Also recieved 2 sportsmanship awards in basketball as underclassman.
Play club soccer in spring, competing in a Massachusetts Premier League and a Region I league in Northeast.
Grades/Course load
for honors must maintain average of 87 with no grades below an 85
for high honors must maintain average of 90 with no grades below 87
9th – honor roll both semesters (high semester 1) – english 9, honors spanish II, biology, world history, honors geometry
10th – honor roll both semesters – english 10, honors spanish III, chemistry, photography (1 semester course), introduction to world religions (1 semester course), algebra II honors
11th – high honors both semesters – english 11, AP Us History, pre-calc, honors IV/V spanish, Physics
12th grade plan to take AP English, AP Spanish, Calculus, AP Government/Politics (1 semester course), Photography 2 (1 semester course), AP Physics, and sing in school’s male acapella group.
2008 National Merit Scholarship Semi-finalist.
I am interested in english/politics, definitely am not a math guy.
Just wondering where I stand/ realistic chances with these schools going into senior year.

Your answer should be available from your counselor. Go to USNews & Report college comparisons. The list will provide the average SAT/GPA for students who attend, as well as the % of applicants who are admitted. Your other awards and activities are bonus points.
If other students from your school have attended your target colleges this may be used as a reference point when the committee considers your application. Again, talk to your counselor.
