Question by Hibiki: What are some quality, recent documentaries about Japan?
I am looking for some travel documentaries about Japan. I have found a few, but most seem to be from the early 90s. I am looking for something a bit more modern and recent. Are there any good documentaries or travel shows worth checking out about the country?

If you love Japanese foods and drinks, Japan episode of “Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations”(2008) on Travel Channel and “Three Sheets”(2007) on MOJO are great program.

Three seasons of “Japanorama”(2002/2006/2007) and “Adam and Joe Go Tokyo”(2003), produced by Jonathan Ross on BBC three, are remarkable for pop and kitsch aspects. You’ll see most weird sides of Japan. You can find most of episodes on Youtube or somewhere.
“Lost in translation”(2003), filmed by Sofia Coppola, is not a documentary but a movie, describes loneliness and alienation for non Japanese speaker in Japan.
“Kintaro walks Japan”(2005) is enjoyable if you are interested in rural area of Japan, even it is amateur video.
