Question by Alireza B: What is the best hardware/software we need for professional film editing?
I need to edit a film, really professionally, and I wanted to see what Computer (mac or pc) and what editing software should I buy (my camera is HDV btw). I already own a dell XPS laptop with 2 gb ram, 250 hard drive and intel core due 2 2.2 GHz, but don’t know if thats good enough for editing HD films. I’m also quite a pro in adobe premier, but I’ve heard its not widely used anymore for pro editing (not good for HD). my budget is around £1500

Why don’t you download and install Linux (Such as Ubuntu) Linux is significantly faster than OSX and more secure. Keep your Windows, you can get a better graphics card… Look at http://www.bizrate.com/graphicscards/
You can tweak Vista or XP by reducing startup processes,
stopping virus protection and other memory resident programs (safe as long as you take care not to go on internet), Vista you can speed up by reducing Aero effects, http://www.cucirca.com/2007/05/03/how-to-speed-up-vista/
You can try Ubuntu Studio (it is TOTALLY FREE) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubuntu_Studio You can download other software like cinelerra (Professional Film Editing). You will save a load of money…
