Question by Jonnyboy: What schools don’t require general education? Or math?
I am really interested in video production, film, etc.. Im thinking about majoring in Communications. Right now I am a junior in high school. Soon to be a senior. Its the time where I need to figure out where I will be going after high school. Now heres a few problems.
In middle school due to A.D.D. and other minor learning disabilities . I was put in a reading class, instead of a foreign language class like the other kids were. These reading classes were very very easy for me. Then when I got to freshman year in high school I took spanish 1. Which was basically a class that put both middle school years together into 1 year of spanish. I hated this class, I believed that because I took this class I did poorly in all of my other classes. I believe this because once I decided not to take it ever again, the next year my grades sky rocketed.
Heres another part of my problem. I hate math. I mean REALLY hate it. I struggled in algebra 1. Geometry was not that hard, but now that I am taking (and soon ending) algebra 2 I am just barely going to squeek by. I hate math so much. I don’t ever want to do any type of this math ever again. I already know the basic math skills the will be needed in life.
So I don’t want to go to a college that requires you to have general education. Why? Well I believe that you should not be forced to take classes that don’t have ANYTHING to do with what you are majoring in. It makes no sense to me. I really hope that I Can find a decent school to go to. Alot of schools want me to know a foreign language.
I also think that is silly. Why should I have to know a foreign language? Im going to a school in the united states, last time I checked we speek english, Not spanish, or french. I hated the classes that I took. And you know what? Its not like I can take any classes now. Theres no way I would want to do that anyways.
So I was wondering if there are any colleges or schools that can get me a BS in communications. Without having to have all of these requirements..
It would really help. Thanks.
Sorry.. NO way in hell am I ever going to want to do math again. Thanks for the story though.
also thanks for the info people. Keep it coming.

Your first 2 years at any college are going to be gen ed. You don’t start getting specialty classes in your major until after that.
