Question by Whitnae: When has your tattoo ever hindered your job/finding a job?
I’m a film major. Upon my pending graduation from college, I’m moving to Brooklyn to start my career (and my new life).
I’ve been wanting an inner arm sleeve for two years now in memorial for my father who passed away. Its going to be really beautiful, with canatoupes and a banner saying “los dias son corto per el a mor le da sabor”
(the days are short but love gives them flavor)
The problem is that my Mom hates tattoos. She didn’t do anything the last time I got one, and it wasn’t small. But it wasn’t in a place as visible as my arm.
Every time I tell her about getting a tattoo she pulls the “no one is going to hire you” card out on me.
This is my defense to that:
1. I’m an artist, a filmmaker. I don’t see myself ever getting a job somewhere that’ll care tat much.
2. I don’t want to work somewhere that would be so picky.
3. People are starting to care less and less about that sort of thing.
I want to come at my mom with a great closing argument when I come back from thanksgiving break with an inner arm sleeve.
So I’d like to hear about your expiriences with tattoos and finding jobs. Particularly those who are of the artistic kind.
