Question by BEB: Which politician is the closest to Theodore Roosevelt?
I am thinking it is Joe Lieberman, actually. Lieberman is a social liberal, but a hawk on foreign policy. He gets hell from the Democrats for sticking up for what he believes in, but still is unwavering with his beliefs. He now considers himself an independent, much like TR did after his Presidency.
Theodore Roosevelt was the same way; he received garbage from the Republicans for not supporting their corrupt machine practices and the Democrats for not supporting their pro-big business, strongly conservative policies. He once said that he wanted “to make the left and center work more together”.
John McCain likes to think that he is a reincarnation of Theodore Roosevelt, but I think that McCain is too conservative to be like him and Roosevelt was a Harvard-educated scholar, whereas McCain graduated 5th from bottom at the Naval Academy.
