Question by B. D: What are the prerequisites to get a contract and business deal between two different production companies?
Ok let me explain my situation here first :
I’m an entrepreneur and an aspiring film director, a huge film enthusiast. I want to get into film business in my country, even though ‘small’ but ‘exist’. Unfortunately, our country do not have an established film industry and extremely limited (international) access with ill-equipped technology. We don’t even own a film studio to shoot! So, i’m dreaming of my own goal and obsession which is to expand our ‘local’ film production overseas
But, i seriously have no clue of what i need and what it takes for accomplishing my big plan.
1. I heard a lot about a ‘co-produced films’ which means the cost for film production is split ’50-50′ between two or more ‘consenting’ countries or film companies according to the signed contract. let say there is plenty of film which co-funded by switzerland and hongkong or denmark,UK and France or Japan/USA/Canada,etc
2. Do we have to get a ‘profitable’ contract with other film company in different country to set off a long-term partnership? but how to work that out? For instance , sweden film companies such as, svensk film production have had signed a contract with several hollywood’s big studios since 30 years ago or India’s film companies who have confirmed their partnership with north america’s film production.
3.Hopefully with the more money we could possibly have, the more potential we could ‘grip’ to advance our technology and to distribute our films internationally just like indians (Bollywood), chinese, americans (hollywood) or europeans
Although, i’m an entrepreneur but i’m still a ‘learner’, a ‘rookie’ so i completely have no idea how to make this business works but i do definitely aware the obstacles and the stake and how risky the “gambling” i am about to play at. That’s why i need an answer to at least guide us to the right direction.
Does anyone here know a little clue about this? I was asking in US board, cause, i believe americans have extremely experienced and highly professional in film business.

Perhaps a film festival might help, it can bring together the film makers in your country to argue what to do to increase the film business out there. Idk if you yourself or the folks you meet at this festival would come together to make a film in your country and try to submit it to U.S. festivals. This could lead to a deal you could take out there. Maybe like The Blair Witch Project which didn’t cost too much, $ 60K. It was submitted to the Sun Dance film festival where it was picked up.Your gonna have to travel to the U.S. for this though, travel expensive, hotels, etc. Or maybe like Panic Attack, you can You Tube this. A short that cost $ 300.oo but led to a $ 21 million film deal. He posted it on You Tube and got a huge number of hits which later led to that deal. All online is how it got reorganized. You already got a computer with internet access, maybe you just gotta make that film -w/ or w/ out the festival folks- and then post it.
