I am looking for some tips on how to break into the film editing business. i wanna know what are some good software, big editing companies, schools in chicago, any and all things related.. thnx

The best way to get into the “film editing business” is to know someone already there 🙂
If you mean Hollywood anyway, its a pretty tough system to get into. I’ve heard one of the best ways is first through trailer houses in LA (places that cut together movie trailers for other production companies). Otherwise, I think it requires a LOT of skill and luck.
Another good way is through the ‘real’ independent film industry. Check craigslist, usually theres a lot of first time filmmakers looking for help, and who knows, you might end up working on the next Sex, Lies, and Video Tape or Blaire Witch Project.
Some industry standard programs are Avid, Final Cut Pro, and Adobe Premiere. They’re all good to know, but the basics of editing is more important (as the fundamentals can be applied to all of these programs).
